SAPEUR

This collection was inspired by the Sapeur’s, a subculture in the Congo made up mostly of men who work common jobs such as taxi drivers, grave diggers and carpenters. When not at work, Sapeur’s dress as if they’re royalty wearing tailored jackets, alligator shoes and pant suits with decadent fabrics and colors. Many Sapeur’s spend their wages acquiring their flamboyant attire. This collection celebrates the Sapeur’s self-expression and recognizes their pleasure in dressing outside their social and economic class.
